About Torah Academy
Torah Academy provides a comprehensive Judaic and general studies education for Jewish children of all backgrounds. Through individualized and rigorous academics, as well as immersion in Jewish traditions, Torah Academy empowers each child to grow and achieve his or her maximum potential. Our caring teachers build each child’s confidence, cultivate the unique talents of the individual and promote character development to foster lifelong learning and accomplishment.
Our History
We are proud to be accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education, supported by a staff of highly qualified teachers, who hold advanced degrees in education. Our curriculum also embraces innovative technology, ensuring our students are prepared to meet the future with sophistication.
Torah Academy is proudly affiliated with the Rabbinical Seminary of America, an institution world-renowned for the quality of its graduates in the fields of Jewish education and outreach. We were founded by Rabbi Shimon and Elisa Zehnwirth, RSA alumnus and are one of many Jewish community day schools across the country inspired by the RSA’s vision of Jewish education.
As part of our school community, TA regularly hosts Jewish programs and events for all ages. We are also affiliated with projects that impact community life in many ways, including the Buffalo Grove Eruv and the Mikvah of Buffalo Grove, under the umbrella organization of the Suburban Alliance for Jewish Education (SAJE). Torah Academy was founded in 2009 by Rabbi Shimon and Elisa Zehnwirth, with the goal of providing quality Jewish and secular education to Jewish children in northern Chicagoland. But TA is about much more than that. It is a growing community of parents, friends, and supporters who are enriched by the learning, events, and people of Torah Academy. It is a family, united around the foundations of Jewish life and education. It is a second home.
Torah Academy serves students from early childhood through eighth grade. Our Early Learning Center features a Reggio-inspired preschool for ages 3 and 4, along with a full-day, Hebrew-immersion kindergarten program for 5-year-olds. Our Elementary and Middle School program builds strong academic foundations while fostering a deep connection to Jewish values. With small class sizes and personalized attention, students grow academically, socially, and emotionally—preparing our graduates to enter high school with confidence.
